Alamance-Burlington School System Honors Institute @ Elon
The Alamance-Burlington School System Honors Institute@Elon is a collaborative effort between the school system and university to provide a summer enrichment experience for talented and motivated students. Participants include rising high school juniors and seniors. The four-week institute, which will meet daily on the campus of 伦大学, challenges students to become more engaged citizens.
The mission of the institute is to challenge students to understand, 探索, and practice engaged citizenship. 学生 will leave the institute motivated to develop new connections and to make positive contributions aimed at improving the quality of life within their communities.
College Writing for High School Juniors
College Writing for High School Juniors (ENG 1070) is two-credit-hour, pass/fail writing seminar that provides a critical writing and inquiry experience for high-achieving high school juniors in Alamance and Guilford counties. Designed and taught by Elon first-year writing faculty, the seminar is an outreach initiative of the First-Year Writing Program and Collegiate Start@Elon in the Dr. 乔瓦威廉姆斯 School of 教育 at 伦大学.
This writing course prepares high school students for college-level writing. Instruction centers on argumentative and narrative writing, with projects ranging from editorials and personal essays to annotated bibliographies and blog posts. 学生 will also reflect on ways to adapt their learning to future contexts, such as college application essays, Advanced Placement courses, 和大学课程.
Collegiate Start@Elon is a dual enrollment program designed to provide high school seniors with the opportunity to simultaneously enroll in both high school 和大学课程, and receive dual high school and college credit. The program provides advanced academic options for high-achieving high school seniors in over 40 courses. 学生 enrolled in Collegiate Start@Elon are eligible to take up to two college-level courses each fall and spring academic semester. Eligible students who are selected to participate are classified as a Special Student through the 伦大学 银河游戏app Office.
The 伦学院, part of the Center for Access and Success, is a non-profit college access and success program for academically promising high school students in Alamance County with a financial need and/or no family history of college. The Academy includes three consecutive summer residential experiences prior to the sophomore, junior and senior years, as well as year-round Saturday programs for students and families. The summer after high school graduation, scholars and families participate in the 伦学院 Transitions to College Program. Once on their respective college campuses, 伦学院 graduates and families are provided with continuing support through the 伦学院 College Success Program to ensure college completion. The 伦探险家 is a summer science enrichment program for middle school students. Programming includes hands-on activities that campers do at home as well as online group meetings.
